A little update on how things are going.

Yes, we are still here. Nothing new on the Jenny front for now.

I still have no word from the old Sob-Story stuff other than he can't find them on his computer any more :(

Other than that, the Zuperiority Complex story still remains as a single strip of an unfinished concept/comic. Tasha's World's Jenny Everywhere arc remains unfinished.

The Crossing Over Worlds story (my comic) remains unfinished as well. I do plan to finish it, but so many other obligations and the fact I had to rewrite the ending had a hand in it falling apart for now.

Well, if anyone else has a submission of any kind, please don't hesitate to let us know! We plan to work on a sort of printable catalog in the future... the details of that need to be worked on, and may run into some problems if I can't find some of the old authors. We'll probably need someone to make the cover art... We could make a contest out of it, but with no cash prize... but the winner would claim the cover of the catalog, and the others would get printed inside.

We'll see. It's planned to be a free-to-download catalog and to be sold on LuLu.com as well, either as a low or no profit sale. I should not say "profit" because if we "make" any money from a LuLu.com sale, it would go towards ads or any overhead costs that LuLu may require for an ISBN or some other unforseen thing...

BASICALLY, the intent is to make something that would be good to sell at a convention for a Jenny Everywhere table or panel. I plan to make some printable flyers or pamphlets as well as stickers for free things too. Well, I might be too ambitious with this thought, but who knows.

Wikipedia Entry

I just updated the Wikipedia entry... well, mostly it was an overhaul. It got tagged on all the links, so I took it upon myself to flesh out the whole article.

I think it looks rather decent, and noone has flagged it for anything yet.

Well, here you go!

Server Move!

Please let me know if pages and links are not working right. We just went through a server mover, so some things might have been jostled.

I am also working on getting moved to a dedicated account, so I can set up a message board, hopefully, as well.

Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenny_Everywhere

Somebody please replace my crappy, poor proportioned main image to the Wiki Page.

Basically you'd have to make an image in which you'd give up some rights (like people can use it on other sites without permission as long as they give credit, though they can't make any money on it). You basically have to upload it yourself to the Wiki.

I made the one that is there because I wanted an image to be on the site. Nelson said I could use of his images, but Wikipedia does not allow me to do it like that.... 2nd hand permission doesn't really work.

Anyway, my image is pretty crappy, but it is something. If someone else could make a better image, please, have at it.

Several Announcements

The Shifter Archive Funding, Hosting, & Advertising.

Future contests (with prize money) now rests solely on Donation Money and Project Wonderful Ads. I have exhausted my current, personal funds. So please place ads or donate. I split the donations with my host at Xepher.Net (and the rest for ads or contests), and I use the ad revenue for ads for The Shifter Archive. So please donate if you can.

I should also mention that The Shifter Archive hosts nearly any and all Jenny Everywhere related materials for free (but no hot linking). Please e-mail in your submissions or notify us if you spot something we missed!

Even if we don't end up hosting your Jenny comic, we'll still post about it, and promote it!

New Writings Added

A link to an essay by Ben Christensen can be found here. Also, from Tom "Captain Zoom" Miller: Two old Jenny Everywhere comic SCRIPTS. One is a Kirby-esque (Fantastic Four, Avengers, and
X-Men) style script, and the second is an "origins" script. Keep in mind that there is no one true origin story for Jenny, but should still prove to be interesting. Read them here and here.

Strip Fight Round 136 Archived

The 136th round of Strip Fight has finally been added to The Archive. You will spot their avatars on the Singles and Art sections of The Archive. There were 3 of the submissions that were really more "art" (single panel) than actual "comic strip" (more than one panel). There was one exception in which I grouped two similar ones together... If anyone has a problem with my cataloging please e-mail me. Next time I do a contest like this, I should specify what I meant by "Draw a Strip".

Here is The Shifter Archive's archive page.

Again, a link to their archive.

New FAQ added

Again, the FAQs for The Shifter Archive is a combination of the original FAQs from the first Jenny Everywhere home site, and of questions specifically related to the Archive Project. Some of which are of my own interpretations, and of which are by no means "Official".

The latest FAQ kinda approaches that thinking:

THE SHIFTER ARCHIVE PROJECT FAQS

So, is this the "Official" site of Jenny Everywhere?

Well, technically, no. Since Jenny Everywhere does not belong to anyone in particular, there is no such thing as an "Official" site. However, the original JennyEverywhere.com site would have been the closest thing to an "Official" site. The Shifter Archive, however, is backed by a number of people from the initial creators of Jenny. This is also the definitive archival site for The Shifter... not that there is any other site like this aside from the Wikipedia entry. Will I call this site the "Official" site? No. Technically, it's a "fan site"! *wink*

Yea, see, basically since Jenny does not belong to anyone in particular, anything and everything donw with Jenny is, well, "Fan Fiction". You see, there is no "Official" story or anything for Jenny beyond the original description and idea behind her when she was "released" as an Open Source character. It's more of a collective acceptance. People can choose to accept some, none, or ALL of the existing stories of Jenny, and apply them to their own story... or not.

I hope I'm making sense. But that is the beauty of The Shifter. Infinite worlds, infinite dimensions, infinite possibilities for stories to be connected... or NOT connected. All essentially "Fan Fiction" of a common idea.

ART ART ART!

Art section is up! Over 15 pieces!

http://theshifterarchive.com/ART/

They are stacked about in chronological order.... as much as I can guess.
____________

Also, I had forgotten to do this, but next chance I get, I will go through all the entries and add links to people's websites (if they exist) for anyone's hosted work. I didn't mean to not put those in before.
____________

Also, here is a link to the Sept. 19th, 2003 New York Times article!

(you may have to register to read it)

Hoo boy.. the Writtings section will take some time!

Most writings will probably be linked out. Mainly the articles. Blog mentions mostly won't be included since there really isn't much new in them... we'll see. I might make a section for just links to such references.

There might be some copyright issues with the articles... particularly with the PencilJack round robin Jenny story and the New York Times article.... as far as the archiving goes. But they will be for sure linked out.

Quick Update

Just letting people know I'm still working on the other parts of the site. I'm going to be going to Geek Kon this year (I'm slated to speak on the webcomics panel), and I try to plug this site and Jenny for a special project I'm lining up. May not officially Launch until October now, though the site will pretty much already be here.

I DO WARN PEOPLE THOUGH!!!

The links are not permanant, as they will change with a new site and Domain name... which may not be an issue for the most part at this point though...

August 27, 2007

Stories are all available!

http://fesworks.xepher.net/SAP/STORIES/

well, for the most part. If any linked site goes down, I still need to make the archive pages for it. But otherwise every Story, Cameo, or Arc I have is either archived or linked to!Publish Post

Possible other questions about Jenny

ATTENTION:

I may not know what the "official" answers would be (if any),
so I'll give my MY best interpretations for additional questions that pop-up.
Remember that these a MERELY my interpretations.

I added these to the site's FAQs.

So Jenny Everywhere is basically open license... but what about other people's stories and designs?

Each Jenny Everywhere story should be respected as a copyright of the people that came up with it. However, if you have an idea that could be BASED off of one of these stories, or one of these stories could serve as a back story (Like "Soulless Mate" is loosely based off of "My Bloody Valentine"), should be OK. However you should still try and contact the original authors about your idea, particularly if it is heavily or largely based off of their story. Otherwise I do believe it is fine.

The reasoning that her scarf and goggles came from her Mother (who is only known as "a famous pilot who disappeared"). In a couple stories, We have also found out that her favorite food is toast. Which I believed was first mentioned in The Late Shift.

Remember that there are an infinite number of Jenny Everywhere's so there is a infinite amount of possibilities of stories. They all do not need to link up into a timeline or anything. Though some can and do. But you can also make something that contradicts another Jenny story if you'd like as well. Infinite possibilities!

What about other people's character designs?

Well, this is something where it might get a little confusing, but there are a few core elements in being a Jenny Everywhere. Again:

"She has short, dark hair. She usually wears aviation goggles on top of her head and a scarf around her neck. Otherwise, she dresses in comfortable clothes. She is average size and has a good body image. She has loads of confidence and charisma. She appears to be Asian or Native American. She has a ready smile."

Jenny has also been frequently seen wearing a long fall/winter coat. Her personality has tended to be a bit rebellious, or "for the people" (remember she is a super hero). She may also be a bit naive (she does not always know the worlds she shifts to), but very creative and "worldly".

Technically... any of these can be messed with. In The Death of Jenny Everywhere there was a sighting of a Cat Jenny Everywhere, a African Jenny Everywhere, and a pre-op Johnny Everywhere. And in The Nipped Nap, the first fill story of Jenny as a humanoid, anthropomorphic animal, had her as a Fox.

The trick is to not go "too far" because then people may have a harder time identifying Jenny. Basically if you change some things, make sure you keep other things... for recognition purposes. If you choose to make a Jenny with a different ethnic background, keep the goggles and scarf. Some people have even just kept the goggles and her ethnicity. In Infinity Apartment, Jenny ends up having just glasses by the end. There are many possibilities.

Oh, and as far as "borrowing" other people's designs: It should be OK for the most part for adaptations, since so many are fully or partially or similarly based off of other Jenny designs already. But I would recommend against a FULL copy/mock of one's design unless you get their permission. But I doubt this would be an issue anyway.

Please either e-mail "fesworks" at his gmail account,
or post a question in the message board.

THREE more stories up

I linked AND archived two stories.

By The Book and Jenny Everywhere Vs Hell

I made the archive because the place where they are linked to use Photobucket or something, so its possible the bandwidth might kill the link every so often. I'm also waiting a reply from the guy about if it is OK to archive it here as well. Especially since it was archived on the original jennyeverywhere.com as well... which is still not online right now.

EDIT: Also, I have uploaded The Late Shift, which actually explains a bit more about Jenny... Technically a Single Strip, but It carries more information in it and it was apart of the original stories... Also, its not related to any other comic.. its a stand-alone strip completely.

August 24, 2007

some Stories

Not all of the stories are listed because I don't have them quite archived.

http://fesworks.xepher.net/SAP/STORIES/

I'm still working on the Hard archive stuff.

August 20, 2007

Cameos and Projects are up!

Well, kinda... I think I got it all to work right. Also, I added a FAQ to explain the "archive" and "linked out" buttons.

Again, if the Jenny piece in question is online, that gets linked to. If its not online, I "turn on" it's archive button.

anyway, here are the sections:

3 Missing Instances of Jenny to find!

There are supposedly 3 instances of jenny in which we are missing.

1) Wherever this image was taken from, we don't know where the original instance of Jenny is. can you find it? Help us? --- >

2) There are (a few?) strips to cameo or small are of SOB STORY. We can only find a darkened copy of ONE image from Sob Story. The rest seem to be missing from online.

3) Lastly there is a Jenny Everywhere, a young child of age 7-9, fights a large monster all by herself. While talking to a small friend about her plans, she uses her own scarf as a slingshot and catapults herself, unfortunately, into the mouth then belly of the beast.

please post here or e-mail fesworks at his g-mail e-mail.

Sample site is underway and updating!

I am slowly updating the same site (link to your left) and I hope to get the ART and PROJECTS sections up. They are smaller but simpler sections to put up. The Articles and writings may be a bit more difficult, especially the Pencil Neck Round Robin Story.

As I do these pages I'm making a general page as well as linking out to spots the exist online AND making archived pages for both existing sites and non-existing sites. (Basically if and when a site disappears, I'll "turn on" the archive page on this main site. I believe in giving the hits to people that could benefit to get them. That being said, I think I'll archive the Round Robin story here, even those the message board where it birthed still exists... but appears to be inactive... I'll double check.

Also, Hotlinking will be prevented, as a bandwidth precaution. There's always PhotoBucket.

August 12, 2007

Last 6 Stories are in!

The Death of Jenny Everywhere

Beauty as a Beast

Makeshift Multiverse

Graveyard Shift

Holiday Pandimonium

Mrs. Zirma

have all been sent in by Benj Christensen!

He is the creator of the ill-fated Infinity Apartment webcomic. So check it out!

August 10, 2007

What's with the Delay?

Well, I'm waiting for my host to migrate to a new server and then I will apply for a new account to specifically hold the Jenny archive. Supposedly its going to happen within the next 30 days, but we'll see.

I was contacted recently by someone who says they have the missing 6 stories on their harddrive. So hopefully they can get that to me soon. Then I can get to work completing the website.

I'm thinking I might have a contest when I launch the website. Probably a "Drawn a single Jenny Everywhere strip." As a nod back to "Strip Fight: Round 5" way back when. We'll see if there would be any ssuport for that.

I might go ahead and upload some of the other portions of the site to the sample site before the move. Like the Projects, Writings, and Art section. But if anyone really needs to access one of the stories we have, just e-mail me, "fesworks", at my gmail account. I'll set you up. Some of them still have links online somewhere.

Released Jenny Image

I am releasing an image to the public of Jenny Everywhere. Well, its a Creative Commons BY-SA v3.0 copyright.

Basically, it allows people to be free:

  • to Remix — to adapt the work
...under the following conditions:
  • Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).

  • Share Alike. If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same, similar or a compatible license.

The license:

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/

The image:
http://fesworks.xepher.net/JENNY/CC-BY-SA.htm

I mostly did this to make an image for the Wikipedia site. I asked Nelson Evergreen, if he wouldn't mind one of his images, but apparently Wikipedia needs all kinds of permission forms or such, so instead of bothering Nelson with all of that, I did it myself. However if Nelson does have time... ;)

JennyEverywhere.com may come back?

On the Discussion page of the Wikipedia entry for Jenny Everywhere, someone said they contacted Steven Wintle (initial creator of Jenny Everywhere, as well as the webmaster and owner of the original site) is actually working on getting the site back up after the server went kablooie... or something.

Well, this could change the future of the The Shifter Archive Project... I'm going to try and contact Steven and see what up.

July 26, 2007

Still need 6 comics!

Seems that #7, the largest checkers, has been getting most of the props, as far as the B&W background goes. I hope to get a sample site up in August. Creating the archive WAY TOUGHER than I thought it would be!

Just to put this on top, I'm still looking for SIX (6) more stories from the old site!

I NEED THESE:

The Death of Jenny Everywhere

Beauty as a Beast

Makeshift Multiverse

Graveyard Shift

Holiday Pandimonium

Mrs. Zirma

July 22, 2007

More Submissions!

I just recieved "Souless Mate"! Thank's dude! Apparently it was the only story fully backed up on the archive site. Good eye!

I have also obtained the lost Strip Fight #5: Draw a Jenny Everywhere Comic!

http://www.stripfight.org/
(It's not on their site any more)

Well, I have been getting underway with the website. Also waiting for Xepher.net to migrate to a new server so I can get a new account.

July 20, 2007

Finding more and more!

I few references and articles have been unearthed from a Google search run... I got to entry 100 before giving up on looking like that... hoo boy... tiring... Lots of repeats of simple blog entries from 2003 mostly.

I recieved a couple more stories via-e-mail:

"My Bloody Valentine", scripted by David Barnett:
and "Bacterial Lunarversity", scripted by Alex Hernandez:

All drawn by John Miers

www.johnmiers.com

So check those out! And yes, I'm aware of the Wayback Machine on Archive.org. Unfortunately it only saved 1 or 2 images of the beginning of each story... but still I'm getting close to getting all of the old stories.

Of the original site, I'm still looking for:

The Death of Jenny Everywhere

Beauty as a Beast

Souless Mate

Makeshift Multiverse

Graveyard Shift

Holiday Pandimonium

Mrs. Zirma

You can find some examples of these pages here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20070502111454/http://www.jennyeverywhere.com/

Now I have not done a Google search on these stories just yet. I've only now had the time to look up their names. I plan to do that soon, unless someone beats me to it.

Right now, the website should launch in a few weeks, unless I under estimate how long it will take to convert and create pages. All-in-All, I plan to have the site up by this Fall!

I should have links in the link section to all of the crossover pages other people have down with the story as well... but You might have already seen those. Not each comic Jenny visits has a crossover strip though.

Starting to collect Jenny Everywhere stories!

If you know where I can find links to the missing Jenny Adventures from the missing jennyeverywhere.com site, it would be muchappriciated! I'll be building a hard archive of any and all stories, cameos, and references to Jenny Everywhere, and linking out to the ones that are still active online! (they deserve the hits if they are still online).

You may also e-mail me the images if the site is not up. e-mail me, "fesworks" , using my gmail addy. Be sure to clearly label the subject so it does not go to my SPAM folder.
